Get Involved in Conventions
It is 2025, and one of the things this means, for many unions, is that planning is well underway for upcoming annual policy conventions. YOU can make an impact on Union decisions. CJLC is here to help.
For most unions, conventions exist by virtue of the Union Constitution. Generally, they are the highest authority in the Union. They are gatherings of delegates selected by their locals or other designated bodies. It is at conventions that audited financial statements and upcoming budgets are presented by Union leaders for both modification and, ultimately, for votes on whether to approve those reports and budgets. There is also usually time for consideration of pre-submitted constitutional amendments and policy resolutions.
It is at their convention that the general Union agenda and policy are set. And, depending on the Union's election schedule, their convention is where the Union president is elected.
Convention is one of several opportunities to address systemic antisemitism, and misuse of Union dues.
Now is the time to begin organizing for Convention. The CJLC can help with information and training sessions on such topics as:
How to become a delegate
How to write and motivate resolutions
How to question the budget to expose members' dues, ending up in the hands of Jew-hating organizations or other improper spending
How to make your voice heard.
