CJLC calls out CUPE National for turning their convention into an anti-Jewish road show

It has become clear that the growing toxicity of the anti-Israel cause has led to an increase of Jew-hate in Canada and around the world. Unfortunately, CUPE has played a leading part of this trend, making its Jewish members – as well a Jewish Canadians generally -- feeling increasingly unsafe and unprotected.

With 240 proposed resolutions being presented for convention debate, at least 27 of them condemn the state of Israel, call for disarming only Israel and even demand financial and legal support for members who are arrested in relation to unlawful protest actions against Israel. Not once in this 176-page document, are the horrors of October 7th acknowledged. CUPE’s claim to moral authority shames its legacy and its history of member activism and representation.

How much do your union dues cost you? Should it not be used to fight for worker rights? CUPE leadership, from the National board through to the submitting bodies of these resolutions, believe it is a priority that your money be used to defend their own political and ideological causes. CUPE has a collective responsibility to be the voice of all its dues paying members, and leadership is supposed to work for you, not fund their own partisan fights, outside of Canadian labour.
