CJLC Statement Following Terrorist Attack at Sydney Chanukah Gathering

The Canadian Jewish Labour Committee (CJLC) strongly condemns the antisemitic attack in Sydney, Australia, targeting the Jewish community who had gathered to celebrate Chanukah.

When calls are made to “globalize the intifada,” Jewish communities around the world bear the consequences. Words matter, and rhetoric that normalizes or glorifies violence creates real danger for Jews everywhere.

We call on unions and labour leaders to uphold their values of solidarity, justice, and human dignity by refusing to associate with groups or demonstrations that promote or excuse violence against Jewish people.

The CJLC's mission to empower and unite Jewish workers across Canada is more important than ever as we confront antisemitism head on. With heavy hearts, we will light our Chanukah candles with strength and purpose.
