Winnipeg, MB – November 21, 2025 – In response to CUPE Manitoba’s Global Justice Committee panel, “Palestinian Solidarity Under Attack: Why Speaking Up and Taking Action Still Matter,” held Wednesday night, and to their continued promotion of the hateful antizionist movement, Lauren Frenkel of the Canadian Jewish Labour Committee (CJLC) issued the following statement:

“The event’s framing relies on selective perspectives and elevates fringe, anti-Israel/antizionist organizations such as Independent Jewish Voices, presenting them as if they speak for all Jews in the labour movement and across Canada. This approach lacks balance, erases crucial context, and misrepresents the views of the overwhelming majority of Jewish Canadians.

“Most concerning is that this programming reinforces a hostile and exclusionary environment for Jewish workers. It fosters a growing climate in labour spaces across Canada where Jewish members feel unwelcome, misrepresented, and unsafe – an outcome that contradicts any stated goal of inclusivity or solidarity.

“CUPE Manitoba has attempted to justify this event by pointing to resolutions passed at its annual convention. However, only a small fraction of CUPE Manitoba’s total membership is eligible to attend and vote, so these decisions do not necessarily reflect broad membership consensus.

“CJLC calls on CUPE Manitoba to acknowledge the harm they are causing their Jewish members and the division they are reinforcing in the labour movement. We urge CUPE Manitoba to end programming that divides workers, marginalizes Jewish voices, and fuels a movement rooted in hatred, and instead focus on dialogue, shared values, and genuine justice for all.”
